Two of my most reliable sources
of information when I was a media man have confirmed to me newspaper reports
that Pnoy indeed tried but failed to win the support of the Iglesia ni Cristo for
the conviction of Chief Justice Renato Corona.
My sources confirmed a story in
The Manila Times that INC spiritual leader Eduardo Manalo did ignore Pnoy’s
explanation on why he wanted Corona
out.
Instead, Manalo categorically
asked the President to focus on fighting poverty and giving land to the poor.
This can only mean two things:
Pnoy has LOST the support of
the biggest and most solid religious groups in the country. The INC is also telling
him: DON’T MEDDLE in and DON’T MESS around with the impeachment trial. We’re
watching you!
For those who don’t know, the
INC is at least five million strong.
If a sect as big as the INC is
UNHAPPY and UNSUPPORTIVE, ANYTHING can happen to any politician anytime. From
round-the-clock media attacks on the things you do to calls and mass actions
for your removal from office.
For Pnoy’s allies who intend to
run in the 2013 elections, they face the additional grim possibility of non-support
by the INC and a much bigger risk of a humiliating defeat in the polls.
So if Pnoy knows what’s good
for him, he had better SHUT UP once and for all on the Corona impeachment and stop meddling in it.
MAGTRABAHO KA NAMAN, MR
PRESIDENT!
If Pnoy disregards his failure
to win the Iglesia’s support to remove Corona
and continues to openly condition the public mind for a conviction, he
shouldn’t be surprised if he’ll have to leave Malacanang a lot earlier than
2016.
Whether Pnoy and his political
allies admit it or not, he’s now standing on very DANGEROUS GROUNDS.
