No matter how he puts
it, Pnoy’s refusal to attend the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) event at the Quirino
Grandstand is an indirect admission of his ‘UNSTABLE STANDING’ with the
country’s biggest religious group.
Otherwise, he would have
grabbed the opportunity to show to the millions of INC members both here and
abroad that his friendship with their leaders is as strong as ever.
That there’s no problem
and he still has the INC’s support.
Pnoy claimed that he had
received a text message assuring him that the affair was all part of the INC’s
evangelization work.
NO POLITICAN IN HIS
RIGHT MIND would ignore an invitation from the INC, the acknowledged biggest
voting bloc in the country, especially with the next elections just more than a
year away.
No sane politician would
skip a chance to show to the world that he is on good terms with the INC. But
that is assuming that he had been indeed invited.
First reports had said
he was not.
If Pnoy had been assured
by whoever that the event was strictly non-political, then there’s NO LOGICAL
REASON for him to worry about possible political implications of his presence,
as he had claimed to media people.
Unless he had intended to
use the gathering to again boast of his purported, GENERIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS or
launch another verbal attack against Chief Justice Renato Corona.
So there can only one
reason why Pnoy still decided not to attend the event.
He wasn’t sure how cordial
will he be received by both the INC leaders and the scores of members present.
He had no assurance that the invitation was not just for formality, he being
the President of the country.
And any welcome less
than very warm, or applause not even near to resounding in intensity, would
have been an unfathomable humiliation for Pnoy.
Which would also have
been UNDENIABLE PROOF that Pnoy is NOT
AS POPULAR as the surveys project
him to be. 30
