Pnoy
again lambasted media for what he called its daily negativism of his
administration despite his purported achievements during the anniversary
celebration of TV Patrol.
He
even ARROGANTLY but COWARDLY, and I mean every letter of these two adjectives, lambasted
TV Patrol anchor and former Vice President Noli de Castro – hitting the man
without naming him but giving descriptions which can only refer to De Castro
like having been a former government official for six years.
So
allow me, ladies and gentlemen, to defend not only De Castro but my former
colleagues in media as a whole (I’m a former senior editor of the Journal Group
of Publications).
Media’s
primary job is to report WHAT HAS HAPPENED or WHAT IS HAPPENING. They broadcast
or write about what they ACTUALLY saw or see, NOT WHAT Pnoy or any other person
want the people to see or hear about in media.
LEGALLY,
MORALLY and ETHICALLY, Pnoy has NO RIGHT WHATSOEVER to CONTROL or INFLUENCE
media on what and what should not come out in the newspapers or be aired on
radio and TV.
HINDI
NA KASALANAN ng media kung MAS MARAMI ang PALPAK o MALI sa mga pinaggagagawa o
pinagsasasabi ni Pnoy o ng mga tauhan nya. Lalong HINDI TRABAHO ng media na
TURUAN MUNA SILA ng gagawin bago magulat ang
mga ito.
If
Pnoy wants more positive news about him, then HE MUST DO MORE GOOD THINGS than
bad. How he does it is his problem, not media’s.
If
he wants positive news about him daily, then he had better work and do good
things daily. Media WILL NOT LIE for him just because he is the President of
the country.
He
claims accomplishments and achievements which are not given prominence and
media, unlike negative stories against him and his government.
For
those who are not so familiar with media work, the prominence and length given
to a story before it is printed or is aired DEPENDS ON, primarily, the SPECIFICS and VOLUME of the details and the
issue.
Mas
detalyado at mas napapanahon ang paksa ng storya, mas pinalalaki at binibigyang
importansiya sa media.
Pero
kung ang sinasabi lamang sa istorya ay bilyun-bilyong piso na ang nagastos sa
ganun o ganitong proyekto, o milyun-milyon na ang nakikinabang at naipagawa na ganito at ganun SUBALIT WALA
NI ISANG PANGALAN ng nakikinabang o EKSAKTONG LOKASYON ng diumano’y proyekto,
WALA itong karapatan na maging malaking balita sa dyaryo, radio o telebisyon.
KAHIT
NA SI PNOY o sinumang maging presidente pa ng bansa ang magpahayag nito.
Some
media people may be abusing the profession, yes.
But
that does not give Pnoy a FREE PASS to attack the integrity of the profession
and its members as a WHOLE and get away with it anytime he wants.
Unless
Pnoy and his minions are IGNORANT ENOUGH not to know, complaints against media
people can be relayed directly to the top editors and officials of the
newspaper or radio or TV station.
Even
to the National Press Club or to the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas.
Sa
halip na BASTUSIN ang kinaiinisang taga-media sa harap ng maraming tao,
pangalanan man ito o hindi.
Trabaho
lang ang ginagawa ng media, walang personalan. Kung may magkamali man o
umabuso, hindi nangangahulugan na pare-pareho na silang lahat. At lalong HINDI
MATATAKOT ang media kaninuman at kailanan, maging sa presidente ng bansa, na
BUMATIKOS kung kinakailangan.
Complaints
or charges can be filed against us if we get abusive. But if Pnoy thinks he can
intimidate or scare media into BLIND SUBMISSION by humiliation or any other
means, he’s having his WORST NIGHTMARE.
