THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH RECEIVING DISCOUNTS!

(Shortly after I posted this blog  this afternoon, I was informed that ABS-CBN received a message from one of their viewers which said that Chief Justice Renato Corona was the ponente, or the one who wrote the decision, on a Supreme Court case involving Megaworld years ago. Before you  get misled, people, Supreme Court decisions are those of the majority, NOT OF ONE JUSTICE ALONE! A ponente is assigned for each case.)

As I was writing this piece, the focus of the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona was the P10-million discount he received from Megaworld Corp for the purchase of a condominium unit at the Bellagio.

The prosecution said a person with integrity and probity, especially a high public official, would not accept a P10-million discount from a developer which might/will be having pending litigation.

Before anyone prejudges anything:

The prosecution DID NOT PRESENT ANY PROOF that there was indeed pending litigation against Megaworld before the Supreme Court.

The prosecution DID NOT PRESENT ANY PROOF that Corona got the discount in exchange for anything that Megaworld needed from the Supreme Court.

The prosecution DID NOT PRESENT any law or administrative order which prohibits Supreme Court justices from receiving huge discounts, or private firms to give the same to Supreme Court justices.

The witness from Megaworld admitted that to his knowledge, the unit Corona purchased needed some corrections or re-work of sorts, and that the transaction was consummated at the height of world financial crisis.

Questions: What, then, was illegal or immoral, to the discount? What was wrong with Corona’s receipt of the discount?

I’m raising these points to prevent anyone from being MISLED or BRAINWASHED! I am not saying that Corona is innocent. What I’m driving at is there was no legal or moral basis to focus on the discount.

Now, draw your own conclusions, boys and girls.

MALACANANG PRESSURING CUEVAS TO QUIT!

ROME DE LEON
They are doing everything to get the head of the Chief Justice...wala ng ginawa ang gobyernong ito na matino at naayon sa batas pag kalaban nila ang involved. Mga garapal, sobra.

DAHLEE BABAAN
If that is so, then I am sad. I think Justice Cuevas is doing his lawyering because it is still his profession. And the old man is not helping the Filipino people find justice. Anyway, the people are the real judge in this political history unraveling now. Let the truth come out. Those concerned, please do not hide the truth. For the sake of the Filipinos and the country! Why is Danger Signs stating, not questioning? If I may say so: Is Malacanang pressuring Cuevas to quit?

JOMACVER VERA
don't think Justice Cuevas will succumb to pressure from  Malacanans. He did not reach this stage of his life just to give in to the whims of a dictator in the making and throw away all the prestige, honor and reputation as a top of the line lawyer, judge and justice he had rightfully earned all those years. If anybody should worry, it must be Pinoy because he will be squandering the 5 million votes which helped him to his position.

If it’s true, why can they not name names? I'm not against anybody but I'm looking forward to the truth.

ED PUNZAL of Tagig
Just because he considers himself as an expert in procedures, he cannot but dazzle the prosecution on technicalities to prolong the trial. Impeachment is a political matter and what matters most here is to prove by any legal means the sins of the impeached official of the government.
