ENRILE MUST EXPLAIN THIS...

This is for Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile to explain.

A report which will come out today in the People’s Journal (PJ) says Enrile talked to Pnoy after a Cabinet meeting in Malacanang Thursday night to ask for the inclusion of his congressman-son Jack Enrile of Cagayan in the senatorial line-up of the Liberal Party (LP) in next year’s elections.

Enrile had been invited to the Cabinet meeting, which discussed possible moves on the Scarborough Shoal standoff with China. PJ says an LP stalwart who asked not to be identified was their source.

For those who are not familiar with media work, stories come out only if the editors find the basis sufficient and the source of the information reliable. So considering who Enrile is and the sensitivity of the story, at the very least he and Pnoy had talked.

A denial from Enrile can be expected but still, he has to convincingly explain what he and Pnoy talked about, ONE-ON-ONE!

Remember, Enrile was among those who had voted to convict former Chief Justice Renato Corona. It was also Enrile who had presided over a meeting by six or seven senators a day or two BEFORE CLOSING ARGUMENTS were delivered in the impeachment trial.

Those six or seven senators eventually voted to convict Corona.

Unless he can convincingly belie this, he can’t blame the people if this will be considered payback time for his support.

Don’t forget, there had been a lot of legal questions on Corona’s impeachment and subsequent conviction. Three senators and a lot of lawyers and legal luminaries did not exactly agree with them.

If Enrile refuses to convincingly clarify or explain the PJ report, then his IMPARTIALITY as Senate President will be in VERY SERIOUS DOUBT! We shouldn’t be surprised after that if it will be SMOOTH SAILING for Malacanang in the Senate, for whatever they need.

If you stand by your decision without expecting or asking for anything in return, that’s integrity. But if you ask for something special after the favor generated by your decision, that’s a totally different story.
