DROPPING BID FOR CORONA INHIBITION MYSTERIOUS!

There’s something more than meets the eye in Hacienda Luisita Inc. (HLI) pronouncement that it will no longer pursue its motion for the inhibition of Chief Justice Renato Corona in the case for the distribution of the hacienda’s land to farmer-beneficiaries.

They had wanted Corona out of the deliberations on the case FOR MONTHS. The SUDDEN change of heart is simply too UNREALISTIS to be a decision out of a long and careful study.

HLI lawyer Antonio Ligon justified the move in a story in the ABS-CBN website by saying: “Nag-iisa lang naman siya (Corona). Hindi naman siya lang ang Supreme Court.”

I had heard of that reason myself from at least 10 personal friends of mine as early as a month or two ago.  It’s INCONCEIVABLE for a seasoned lawyer like Ligon NOT TO HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT!

If Ligon or his associates, and for that matter HLI, will say they indeed di not, then they’re one BIG BUNCH OF INCOMPETENTS! Which I don’t think they will  admit to either.

So the million-dollar question now is WHY? I have two guesses.

First, Pnoy and his relatives want to project an image of fairness toward Corona to win back public support.

Remember, guys, Pnoy’s popularity has DROPPED by nine percentage points (if I’ recall correctly) according to the surveys Malacanang ardently believes in. And as I’ve pointed out in an earlier blog, anti-Corona protest actions have STOPPED.

And if you’ll notice people, expressions of support for Corona’s ouster have practically ceased. No one is saying anything in media anymore in support of Pnoy and the House prosecutors (EXCEPT THEMSELVES).

Second, which I must admit is an early long shot, it is an advanced proof of the MAGNANIMITY they will claim in the event Corona is acquitted by the senate Impeachment Court

Pnoy and Malacanang will say that the acquittal proves they have been FAIR ALL  ALONG to Corona, as what had been shown by the decision of HLI and non-interference to it by Malacanang.

So that the public backlash will not be as HARSH and HUMILIATING as it could be and they won’t look like the bad guys, especially in media.

Take your pick, boys and girls!

Thank you, friend Boyet Antonio, for carrying on the fight for enlightening the people on what is truly happening in the political landscape of our society. Truth to tell, it is really getting to be very tiring. Let us just all hope and pray that all these things will come to an end in the most favorable manner for everyone concerned. In my own opinion, these prosecutors are on the wrong side of the fence. I say to them, ENOUGH ALREADY!

It’s funny how easy it is to loose integrity and honesty when one is suddenly thrust into the seat of glitz and power. CARANDANG isn’t the first media practitioner or prominent TV personality to succumb. Remember Ricardo (Dong) Puno? He was ABS-CBN's star during his time - he lost it when he became Erap's Press Secretary. One who escaped this Byzantine trap is the late Ted Benigno (only because he quit early)... Really makes you ponder whether the job is worth the price you pay for.

ATTENTION, IMPEACHMENT TRIAL PROSECUTORS!

Attention, Corona impeachment tiral prosecutors:

The defense has promised to be quick with their presentation of evidence when trial resumes on May 7. Defense lawyer and spokesman Tranquil Salvador said they hope it will help the Senate Impeachment Court conclude the trial before Congress adjourns, in June.

Exactly like what you people have been calling for. So prove that you guys are MEN OF YOUR WORD.

DO NOT DELAYI THE TRIAL, UNREASONABLY!

Be damned sure that whatever objections you raise are with SOLID BASIS. And not just DESPERATELY STOP the defense from practically saying. Especially if they eventually decide to reduce the number of witnesses they will present, as revealed by one of their members, Ramon Esguerra.

Your repeated requests, as in like a broken CD, for the impeachment court to decide ASAP (as soon as possible) even without the defense concluding the presentation of their case, is not working.

IT WILL NEVER WORK for what you want, a decision BASED MAIINLY on your evidence and not on both yours and the defense’s.

Majority of the people are not STUPID! They’re not SUCKERS (utu-uto) and most of all,, they’re not for you guys or your bosses in the House of Representatives and in Malacanang.

They are for THE TRUTH

You guys DON’T TRULY ENJOY the supposed popular support being claimed by the surveys, and you know it.  One solid proof is protest actions against Chief Justice Renato Corona HAD STOPPED LONG BEFORE THE TRIAL went on a break!

So when the trial resumes, no gimmicks and irrelevant antics, please! In case you stand up or interrupt the defense, be sure it won’t be a waste of time.

Millions of our hard-earned taxes have been spent, and the impeachment trial has further divided us Filipinos. Everything has gone far enough. All these must end, IMMEDIATELY!

Normally, Palace/ presidential spokespersons are the pleasant and  acceptable faces to the public. But in the case of Abnoy’s spokespeople, one is more nakakasuka than the other. They all reflect Abnoy’s arrogance and  incompetence. Being a spokesperson for Anoy is a suicidal job really! Protecting and defending Abnoy is the most dishonest and dirtiest job.

Typical response -- evade the question by pointing fingers at somebody else. Marquez isn't Corona's spokesperson, nor is he his lawyer or accountant. He's a Supreme Court employee, why should he speak about Corona's case when he has no place in it? He spoke about the lack of respect for court rulings because of the trend started by the Executive Department. Even during GMA's time, she always followed the Supreme Court's orders be it a TRO on executive orders or whatever it maybe.

CARANDANG SYMBOL OF PALACE ARROGANCE, GUILT!

Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office Secretary Ricky Carandang’ is a symbol of Malacanang’s arrogance and guilt in defying Supreme Court orders.

Reacting to Supreme Court Administrator and spokesman Midas Marquez that Malacanang’s defiance of court rulings has emboldened others to follow suit, Carandagng said it was just to divert attention from issues against Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Carandang is either out of touch with reality or is simply a lousy, incompetent Malacanang defender.

Speaking at the Supreme Court media forum in Baguio City, Marquez pointed out at least three temporary restraining orders by High Tribual which were ignored by the Executive Department:

Collection of a 20 percent final withholding tax on P35 billion worth of Poverty Eradication and Alleviation Certificates (PEACe bonds) by the Bureau of Internal revenue last November.

In the same month, the Department of Justice's (DOJ) refusal to honor a SC TRO, on watch list orders against former first couple Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Mike Arroyo

The DOJ's non-compliance with a Manila court’s order for the inspection of t National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Deputy Director Reynaldo Esmeralda’s vehicle when he was allegedly ambushed last Feb. 21.

Marquez also noted :

St. Theresa's College (STC) High School Cebu's refusal to obey a trial court TRO directing it to allow certain students to graduate despite posting their sexy pictures in the Internet!

SM Baguio's refusal to receive a trial court-issued Temporary Environmental Protection Order (TEPO) stopping it from cutting down 182 trees for its expansion.

But to all these, Carandang could only counter with the IRRELEVANT statement that Marquez should focus on explaining Corona's cash and assets.

WAHH! Where the hell is the connection?

Marquez DID NOT MENTION Corona’s money and assets in his statement. There is no link whatsoever between Corona’s impeachment trial and his finances. Neither did the ignored TROs come from the Senate Impeachment Court.

Carandang’s reply was DESPICABLY and PATHETICALLY IRRELEVANT and ILLOGICAL

And in a CRYSTAL-CLEAR sign of his INCOMPETENCE to correctly react, Carandang replied when asked by reporters if he would debate with Marquez: “Ano po ba ‘yung issues?  Let’s just face the issues in the impeachment court.”

As the kids say: OMG (Oh, my God)! It seems the guy is reacting from another planet!

Carandang did not have the HUMILITY and PROFESSIONALISM to simply say “Sorry, guys! I don’t think I’m in a position to comment!! Instead, he ARROGANTLY counters with an irrelevant reaction, never mind if he’ll hit Corona who wasn’t the one talking.

He did not have any convincing defense against Marquez’s pronouncements. Absence of a credible defense can only mean one thing – GUILT!

LILIAN PRESTOZA
Perhaps, those who voted for Pnoy are now banging their heads on the wall. I did not vote for him. I voted for Gibo. How regrettable that a man so promising was beaten by a ......!

AL RAMIREZ DIZON of Singapore
Privatization shifts some or all aspects of service delivery from government to private-sector providers. It is a strategy to lower the costs of government and achieve higher performance and better outcomes for every peso spent by taxpayers. Government managers and concerned citizens can use privatization to achieve a number of other goals:

Cost Savings: A Reason Foundation review of more than 100 privatization studies found savings ranging from 20 percent to 50 percent.

Access to Expertise: Contracting gives governments access to expertise they do not have in-house on an as-needed basis. It is cheaper to retain architects, engineers, and lawyers on an as-needed basis than to hire them as full-time employees.

Better Quality: Competition brings out the best in competitors. Bidders have incentives to offer the best possible combination of price and service quality to beat their rivals.

Improved Risk Management: Contractors, rather than the government, are responsible for cost overruns, strikes, delays, and other risks.

Innovation: Competition to win and retain contracts spurs the discovery of new, cutting-edge solutions. Without competition, even top-notch employees may stop looking for ways to improve how they meet customers' needs.

Meeting Peak Demand: The cost of providing a public service can be raised considerably by the capital and manpower needed to satisfy demand at peak periods, even though those peaks may last only for a few hours a day, a few days a week, or a few months a year. Contracting allows governments to obtain additional help when it is needed so that services are uninterrupted for residents.

Timeliness: "Time is money" if you are a contractor footing the bill, or if your contract with the city or state includes penalties for delays. Contractors can recruit additional workers or provide performance bonuses to meet or beat deadlines, options that often are unavailable to in-house staff.

If badly executed, however, privatization like any other policy can fail. Taxpayers are no better off, and may be worse off. 30

ANOTHER WASTED YOUTH BECAUSE OF DRUGS!

This piece will be a little different from the usual.

A personal friend of mine has just informed me that he has just confined his son to a rehabilitation center for illegal drug users. The boy confessed his addiction but he has already been kicked out of his university, lost more than 20 pounds and disowned and abandoned by friends.

After consoling my friend, I couldn’t help saying to myself: “Another wasted youth.”

To all users of illegal drugs:

You have NOTHNG TO GAIN, and EVERYTHING TO LOSE, in taking illegal drugs.

Your money, your future, your career or even your freedom and most of all your LIFE! Only the pusher or the drug trafficker will benefit from your being a user of, or addict to illegal drugs!

Illegal drugs won’t make you rich, or richer.

It doesn’t make you handsomer or prettier. It won’t make you smarter, stronger or sexier. It won’t help you get higher grades in school or a promotion at work.

Neither will it make you popular to members of the opposite sex, or to your classmates or co-workers or neighbors. Or open doors to success or fane and fortune for you.

Ask yourself a million times if you want to: what good can you get out of illegal drugs? Then, grab and read EVERY REFERENCE MATERIAL you can think of and a thousand to one, YOU WON’T FIND ANY.

If you’ll say that illegal drugs help you forget your problems and your sorrows, It DOESN’T SOLVE anything either.

Instead, you’ll be avoided like a plague or a known vicious CRIMINAL by everyone they know. Worse, some are even abandoned by their own families or relatives.

Non-users will never want to be friends or be identified with drug dependents..

NO SCHOOL OR COMPANY will keep an illegal drug user once he or she is uncovered.  Regardless of how intelligent or how good and productive that dependent is.

A son of one of my cousins was already the general manager of the forwarding firm he was working in when he got into illegal drugs. He was only in his late 30s then.

I can’t remember the reason why.

But I do remember that he got hooked on shabu, as in, and was IMMEDIATELY FIRED by his boss upon discovery of his addiction. His mother, wife and siblings tried everything to rehabilitate him.

But before they succeeded, he had already lost his savings and his home to shabu.

There are a lot of alternatives when anyone is being tempted to try illegal drugs.. Just ask your parents, teacehrs, relatives, spiritual adviser or anybody really close to you.

If anyone is interested, I can give some personal suggestions.

CORONA’S ATENEO STINT AND HIS FAMILY’S MEANS!

LILIAN PRESTOZA
The prosecutors and the senator-judges on the impeachment case of the CJ are in cahoots to make sure that he is removed from office. They will do anything and everything . It is sad because the family suffers the humiliation their Dad has to endure. I sympathize truly. The charge insinuating that the CJ did not have the means to study in Ateneo as well as his daughter’s salary is not enough to buy a house in the US are dirty tactics these desperate guys are employing. No wonder, CJ Corona is fighting against all odds to clear his name and his family. He is hurting. To Mrs. Corona, Ma'am ,my support.

If that is true...to drag CJ's father and all other siblings into this fray would only mean one thing -- the prosecution is so desperate they know an acquittal is forthcoming, thus they are trying to malign the family to cast disrespect and dishonor.
